Πέρασα το χθεσινό πρωινό στη δυτική Λέσβο, ξεκινώντας από την περιοχή του Κάμπου (δεξιά κατεβαίνοντας για Γαββαθά) και την Αρχαία Άντισσα, προς Φανερωμένη-Σίγρι και στη συνέχεια Τσιχλιώντα και Ερεσσό. Είχε πολύ ισχυρό άνεμο από το Σίγρι και μετά, αλλά η παρατήρηση πουλιών νωρίτερα στον Κάμπο ήταν φανταστική για μεταναστευτικά πουλιά.
Δεκάδες πουλιών, ειδικά στα φρεσκοκομμένα τριφύλλια. Τα περισσότερα ήταν Ασπροκώλες και Σταχτοπετρόκληδες αλλά και Καστανολαίμηδες, όμως αυτό που ήταν εντυπωσιακό ήταν το πλήθος από Γαϊδουροκεφαλάδες. Μόνο μικρά κοπάδια από Κιτρινοσουσουράδες και Μελισσοφάγους και σχεδόν καθόλου χελιδόνια, εκτός από ένα μεγάλο κοπάδι Βραχοχελίδονα, πάλι στον Κάμπο. Αρκετοί Αετομάχοι και Κοκκινοκεφαλάδες.
Είχα μια νέα στην παρατήρηση πουλιών φίλη μαζί μου και είχε τη χαρά να ανακαλύψει το όμορφο μπλέ χρώμα του Μελισσοφάγου και της Χαλκοκουρούνας και μαζί το υπέροχο πέταγμα ενός κοπαδιού από 5 Τσαλαπετεινούς.
Το δυτικό τμήμα του νησιού της Λέσβου ποτέ δεν σε αφήνει παραπονεμένο (ειδικά κατά τη μετανάστευση), παρά τα χιλιόμετρα…

I spent the morning hours at the western part of Lesvos today, starting from Kampos area (on your right while going down to Gavathas) and Ancient Antissa, towards Faneromeni- Sigri, Tsichliontas (Meladia) Valley and Eressos. It was very windy from the Sigri area and onwards, but the time spent earlier at Kampos (with a much milder wind) was fantastic for migrants.
Tens of birds, especially in the freshly mowed fields. Most of them Wheathears [(Black-eared (Oenanthe hispanica) mainly but also Northern ones (Oenanthe oenanthe)] and Winchats (Saxicola rubetra), but what was impressive was the numbers of Lesser Grey Shrikes (Lanius minor). Only small flocks of Yellow Wagtails (Motacilla flava) and Bee-eaters (Merops apiaster) and hardly any hirundines, but a large flock of Crag Martins (Ptyonoprogne rupestris). Several Red-backed (Lanius collurio) and also some Woodchat Shrikes (Lanius senator).
I had a freshly starting in birdwatching, good friend of mine, with me and she had the pleasure to discover the blue colors of both the Bee-eater (Merops apiaster) and the Roller (Coracias garrulus) together with the lovely flight of a small flock of 5 Hoopoes (Upupa epops).
The western part of the island can be very rewarding during migration.
