Νοτιάδες επικράτησαν, με ήπιες και βροχερές μέρες από τα μέσα Ιανουαρίου και μετά. Επισκέφτηκα την Αλυκή Καλλονής στις 18, 25, 27 του μηνός και έκανα ολοκληρωμένη καταγραφή των πουλιών της στις 24.
Ένα αξιοπρεπές κοπάδι από Χουλιαρόπαπιες βρίσκεται τώρα στα πλημμυρισμένα λιβάδια κάτω από την Αλυκή, σηματοδοτώντας (τουλάχιστον για μένα που παρατηρώ πουλιά στην περιοχή…) ένα πρώιμο ανοιξιάτικο πέρασμα. Κάτι άλλο αξιοσημείωτο είναι οι Καστανόπαπιες που έχουν αρχίσει τις επιδείξεις και είναι ιδιαίτερα φωνακλούσες και δραστήριες. Εντοπίζονται σε δύο υποπεριοχές. Η μία είναι τα λιβάδια απέναντι από την είσοδο στους εργασιακούς χώρους, όπου 16-22 εντοπίστηκαν σε κάθε επίσκεψη- ενώ προηγούμενα έβλεπες μόνο 2-4. Το άλλο, ως γνωστόν, στα λιβάδια κάτω από το ανατολικό τμήμα της Αλυκής. Αβοκέτες δεν παρατηρήθηκαν καθόλου…

ΘΑΛΑΣΣΑ: 10-40 Σκουφοβουτηχτάρια παρατηρούνται στη θαλάσσια περιοχή κάτω από την Αλυκή, μαζί με 1-2 Μαυροβουτηχτάρια και ακόμη ένα ζευγάρι από Θαλασσοπρίστες. Χειμωνογλάρονα πηγαινοέρχονται μεταξύ Τσικνιά και Μυλοπόταμου και το ίδιο μοναχικοί Λεπτοραμφόγλαροι. Άλλα πουλιά της ακτής είναι Τουρλίδες, Κοκκινοσκέληδες, Αργυροπούλια, Αργυροτσικνιάδες και Λευκοτσικνιάδες και λίγα Φοινικόπτερα (Φλαμίνγκο).
ΛΙΒΑΔΙΑ: Μεγάλα κοπάδια (100-150 πουλιά) από Σπίνους και Καρδερίνες και μικρότερα από Φλώρους και Τσιφτάδες και ακόμη και Σιρλοτσίχλονα (6-12 πουλιά). Επίσης παρατηρήθηκαν Σταρήθρες (40-100 πουλιά).
Σύνολο ειδών πουλιών που παρατηρήθηκαν: 64
South winds, milder and rainy days from mid-January and on. I have visited the Kalloni Salt Pans on 18, 25, 27 of the month performing a complete count of the birds on 24 Jan.
A decent flock of Shovelers are now in the fields below the Pans indicating (at least for me birding at the site) an early spring movement. One other thing to report is that the Ruddy Shelducks have by now strarted their bonding displays and they are so vocal and active. There are now two different places for them at the fields below the Pans. One opposite the entrance of the pans where 15-22 birds can be found there in every visit -until now only 2-4 birds used to be there before the flooding of the area. The other place, of course, is the fileds below east part of the salt pans. No Avocets were found.

SEA: 10-40 Crested Crebes (Podiceps cristatus) can be observed in the sea below the Salt Pans together with 1-2 Black-necked Grebes (Podiceps nigricolis) and even a pair of Red-breasted Mergansers (Mergus serrator) (27 Jan). Sandwich Terns (Sterna sadvichensis) go up and down the coastline between Tsiknias and Milopotamos river and so do single Slender-billed Gulls (Croicocephalus genei). Other birds of the area are Curlews (Numenius arquata), Redshanks (Tringa totanus), Grey Plovers (Pluvialis squatarola), Great White Egrets (Casmerodius albus), Little Egrets (Egretta garzetta) and a few Flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus).
FIELDS: Large flocks (100-150 birds) of Chaffinches (Fringilla coelebs) and Goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis) can be observed and smaller ones of Greenfinches (Chloris chloris), Corn Buntings (Milliaria calandra) and even Cirl Buntings (Emberiza cirlus) -6-12 birds. Skylarks (Alauda arvensis) are also found in spottable flocks (40-100).
