About

Thank you for visiting my blog!

I share here what I record during my birdwatching visits to the Kalloni Gulf wetlands (see “Sites” page) but also all around the island of Lesvos. Friends and other contributors are welcomed to share their sighting here, too.

For up-to-date interesting sightings also visit:

  • the Facebook group “Lesvos Bird News“, for sightings and photos shared by members of the group
  • this blog’s Twitter account, for important sightings only!- please use #LesvosBirds when sharing on twitter

OTHER RESOURCES on bird news from Lesvos:

e-Bird Find bird sightings of the year-round here, under the region “Northern Aegean” (that consists of the islands of Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios, Samos). Most of the hot-spots of the areas belong to Lesvos! You can look at the “overview” of the species seen or the “recent visits” subpage

Observado Bird records from Lesvos can be submitted and, most importantly checked upon this website (usually active mid-April to Oct).

Birdtrack Since April 2015 records from Lesvos can be submitted to the Global Entry addition of Birdtrack. Those records are used by the Hellenic Ornithological Society (contributing among other issues to the European Birds Breeding Atlas etc) and are really important.

Lesvos Birders (Facebook Group) Bird photos and information about visiting the island of Lesvos for birdwatching and some bird news by visitor birders.

Lesvos Nature and Landscapes (Facebook Group) is a group for other organisms and nature of Lesvos, with mainly local contributors.

RARE bird sightings:

Please, do not neglect to report any rare bird you see to the Lesvos Bird Records Committee. Visit the site to find out which species need to be reported!
