The last post on this website was exactly 3 years ago!
In the meantime I was “behind” the Bird news section on the website for the Kalloni Environmental Information Center of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest. Now working in Management Unit for the Protected Areas of the NE Aegean Sea, Necca (I have a clear tendency to find for long-named employers…), I will try to keep Lesvos Bird News (LBN) up to date, highlighting all recent bird sightings on Lesvos.
To add some bird news, here are the very first sightings of 2024 Spring:
White Stork: arrived at the Kalloni Square nest on Feb 29 (Mirsini Skiadelli)
Yelkouan Shearwater: made appearence in the Kalloni Gulf (one of the 3 most important feeding sites for the species during the pre-laying period), before nesting on their colonies on islands of the Aegean Sea in end of January. Cover photo is from the east side of the Kalloni Gulf mouth on Feb 11.

Yelkouans feeding in the Kalloni Gulf (Feb 26)
House Martin: 10 birds by Dipi reedbed on Feb 10, 8 birds over Agia Paraskevi on Feb 28 and some more on the same day by Vatera (Giorgos Fransouas)

House Martin (Delichon urbicum) (Feb 14)
Barn Swallow: 2 birds moving through by Kalloni on Feb 28 (Ben Metzger)
Please overlook any recipe related titles and other words, dead-end links etc as I am still working on fitting the website into the original theme on wordpress that was about cooking…
