21 June, Kalloni Salt Pans | 21 Ιουνίου, Αλυκή Καλλονής

Επισκέφτηκα την Αλυκή Καλλονής το πρωινό της 21ης Ιουνίου. Αίθριος καιρός με άπνοια μέχρι το μεσημέρι. Η γωνιακή θερμάστρα μπροστά από το παρατηρητήριο του κεντρικού δρόμου  (Καλλονής-Μυτιλήνης) είχε νωρίς το πρωί 16 διαφορετικά είδη παρυδάτιων και υδρόβιων πουλίων, ειδικά μεταναστευτικά!  Ακολουθούν όσα ενδιαφέροντα είδα:

1 Αργυροπελεκάνος (Pelecanus crispus)- ο 1ος για αυτό το καλοκαίρι!

22 Σταχτοτσικνιάδες (Ardea cinerea), 7 Λευκοτσικνιάδες (Egretta garzetta)

705 Φλαμίνγκο (Phoenicopterus roseus)- εμφανώς νέα πουλιά έχουν φτάσει

3 Πετροτουρλίδες (Burhinus oedicnemus)

2 Ποταμοσφυριστές (Charadrius dubius), 6 Θαλασσοσφυριχτές (Ch. alexandrinus)

1 Δρεπανοσκαλίδρα (Calidris ferruginea)

59 Κοκκινοσκέληδες (Tringa totanus), 1 Μαυρότρυγγας (T. erythropus)

5 Πρασινοσκέληδες (T. nebularia), 1 Βαλτότρυγγας (T. stagnatilis)

3 Λιμόζες (Limosa limosa)

28 Καστανοκέφαλοι Γλάροι (Chroicocephalus ridibundus), 2 Λεπτοραμφόγλαροι (C. genei)

4 Μουστακογλάρονα (Chlidonias hybridus)

Επίσης καταγράφηκαν: Βαρβάρα (Tadorna tadorna) και Καστανόπαπια (T. ferruginea), από ένας Λευκοπελαργός και Μαυροπελαργός (Ciconia ciconia, C. nigra), Ποταμογλάρονα (Sterna hirundo) και Νανογλάρονα (Sterna albifrons) και τα δυο να ταϊζουν τους νεοσσούς τους και τέλος Αβοκέτες (Recurvirostra avocetta) και Καλαμοκανάδες (Himantopus himantopus) με τους τελευταίους μόνο ακόμη να επωάζουν αρκετές φωλιές.

ΘΑΛΑΣΣΑ: 1 Crested Crebe (Podiceps cristatus)

ΠΕΡΙΟΧΗ ΠΑΝΩ ΑΠΟ ΑΛΥΚΗ (βοσκοτόπια και ελαιώνες): οικογενειακές ομάδες από Κλειδωνά (Poecile lugubris), Βραχοτσοπανάκο (Sitta neumayer), Κοκκινοκεφαλά και Παρδαλοκεφαλά (Lanius serrator , L. nubicus), Τσιφτά (Emberiza calandra) κλπ. Επίσης μια Γερακίνα (Buteo buteo) και 1 Φιδαετός (Circaetus gallicus).

I visited the Kalloni Pans during the morning of 21 June. Fine weather with no wind until noon. The corner pan just in front of the north hide (by the main Kalloni-Mitilini road) had 16 different wetland bird species! Here are the highlights of what I recorded, with several migrant species:

1 Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus)- the 1st one for this summer

22 Grey Herons (Ardea cinerea), 7 Little Egrets (Egretta garzetta)

705 Flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus)- clearly more birds have arrived these days

3 Stone Curlews (Burhinus oedicnemus)

2 Little Ringed Plovers (Charadrius dubius), 6 Kentish Plovers (Ch. alexandrinus)

1 Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea)

59 Redshanks (Tringa totanus), 1 Spotted Redshank (T. erythropus)

5 Greenshanks (T. nebularia), 1 Marsh Sandpiper (T. stagnatilis)

3 Black-tailed Godwits (Limosa limosa)

28 Black-headed Gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus), 2 Slender-billed Gulls (C. genei)

4 Whiskered Terns (Chlidonias hybridus)

Also recorded: Shelduck (Tadorna tadorna) and Ruddy Shelduck (T. ferruginea), singles of White and Black Stork (Ciconia ciconia, C. nigra), Common Terns (Sterna hirundo) and Little Terns (Sterna albifrons) both providing to chicks and lastly Avocets (Recurvirostra avocetta) and Black-wing Stilts (Himantopus himantopus) with only the latter still incubating on several nests.

IN THE SEA: 1 Crested Crebe (Podiceps cristatus)

AREA ABOVE THE KALLONI PANS (fileds and olive groves): family parties of Sombre Tits (Poecile lugubris), Rock Nuthatches (Sitta neumayer), Woodchat and Masked Shrikes (Lanius serrator , L. nubicus), Corn Buntings (Emberiza calandra) etc. Also 1 Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) and 1 Short-toed Eagle (Circaetus gallicus).
