This morning (7/3) 10 SWIFTS and 2 BARN SWALLOWS have been reported in Mitilini, by Apostolos Christopoulos.
In the afternoon I visited the Kalloni Salt Pans under strong south wind and a terrible, full of Sahara dust atmosphere. The minute I turned in from the main road I saw a flock of 6 BARN SWALLOWS myself! In the first pan 4 GARGANEYS mixed with 6 Shovelers and at the seasonal pool at the SW corner of the Pans 17 LITTLE RINGED PLOVERS. Also 3 GREEN SANDPIPERS and a flock of 40 migrant SHOVELERS in the fields south of the pans.
Later on over Skala Kallonis 10+ HOUSE MARTINS, 1 BARN SWALLOW and a flock of 5 fly-over GLOSSY IBISSES.
Here are some photos under bad light and strong wind:
Ah, swifts! Lucky you. It takes them another 7 weeks to reach me…
Be patient Hanneke, or come to Lesvos!!
