Driving in speed past the Kalami Marsh (W part of Messa wetland) yesterday afternoon (3/4) I noticed a compact flock of black birds. If it was winter they would be Coots and I instanlty thought they were Ferruginous Ducks. I turned the car and managed to get some totaly against the sun photos.

37 Ferruginous Ducks (Aythya nyroca) together with 5 Garganeys (Anas querquedula), they were!

This is a large flock as most usually single birds are recorded each year. The largest recorded was one I had of 25+ birds back in 9 March 2014. Flocks of Ferruginous Ducks are passing in early Spring from most parts of Greece (Crete, Athens etc).
