The fair morning by the Kalloni Salt Pans and pasture land by Agia Paraskevi was full of Crested Larks (Galerida cristata) giving epic battles and and Corn buntings (Emberiza calanrda) singing their hearts out from every possible post. Apart from the single Hoope (Upupa epops) -S.Zannetos saw the very first for this year two days ago!- the only other migrants I was able to find were 5 House Martins (Delichon urbicum) and 4 Barn Swallows (Hirundo rustica).

In the pans, the Wigeons (Anas penelope) are giving their place to passing Shovelers (A. clypeata) and Ruddy Shelducks (Tadorna ferruginea) are declining in numbers (just over 50) as they are moving to their breeding territories by now.

The population of House Martins returning to their nests in the village are rising: counted more than 25 over my neighborhood alone on two consecutive evening with only 2-3 Barn Swallows.
