Pelicans (predominately Dalmatian) can regularly be seen on Lesvos by June each year. Towards winter they are a common sighting around the north Kalloni Gulf coast and flocks of 20+ can be observed especially at Messa wetland, the Kalloni Pans and the sea coast in between. Early each morning the birds forage along with Great Cormorants and can give excellent views.
This week 35 Dalmatian Pelicans and 7 Great White Pelicans were recorded in the Kalloni Pans (by St. Zannetos).
