I went up the coastal route from Nifida up to Skala Kallonis on Tuesday (11/2). Only with my binos and camera with me and in a car with people interested in other aspects of the route (to supervise a program for signing major wetlands around the gulf). The weather was more than great and the whole ride was very enjoyable. Here are the highlights of my quick pass:
Nifida marsh
11 Flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus)

Great Crested Grebes (Podiceps cristatus), Shags (Phalacrocorax aristotelis), Yellow-legged and Black-headed Gulls (Larus michahelis & Croicocephalus ridibundus)
Polichnitos Salt Pans
Flamingos, Pied Avocets (Recurvirostra avocetta), Greenshank (Tringa nebularia), Great and Little White Egrets (Ardea alba & Egretta garzetta), Grey Herons (Ardea cinerea), 1 Marsh Sandpiper (Tringa stagnatilis)-this one is around since last October!

11 Common Shelducks (Tadorna tadorna), 40+ Shovelers (Anas clypeata), 23 Flamingos, 2 Water Pipits (Anthus spinoletta)

Vouvaris river
2 Ruddy Shelducks (Tadorna ferruginea)

Messa wetland
9 Common Shelducks (Tadorna tadorna), 35 Flamingos
Kalloni Pans (grrr such a short time spent there!)
Flamingos, Great Cormorants, Great and Little White Egrets, 1 Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), 1 Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), 2 Marsh Harriers (Circus aeroginosus), 1 Long-legged Buzzard (Buteo rufinus), Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos), Common Shelducks, and Teals (Anas crecca).
Some other species recorded in several areas: Meadow Pipit, White Wagtail, Crested Larks, Sky Larks, Great and Blue Tits, Black Redstarts, Stonechats, Chawfinches, Golden Finches, Corn Buntings, Common Buzzards etc.
